GHARANA NAMKEENS The Taste of Tradition

About Gharana Namkeens

A small pure-veg snack shop and bakery on Panditiya Road near Ballygunge, Kolkata, with a marble counter, shelves to the ceiling, and its own name on the jars.

Gharana is run by Savesh Baid. The shop makes the house namkeens, the honey dry-fruit cake, the jamun chips and the cakes to order, and stocks the cookies, crackers and chips that sit alongside them. The label on the jar says what the shop believes: the taste of tradition.

It shares a wall with Khushvika Luxury Gifting, the silver-plated gift shop next door, which is run by the same family. The two shops together cover most of what a Kolkata visit calls for: the gift and the thing to eat with it.
